History & facts

Tourmaline's name comes from the Sinhalese turamali, "stone of mixed colors," for its wide color range. Pink and red tourmaline (deep red is called rubellite) has been mined in Brazil for over 300 years, mainly from pegmatites in Minas Gerais.
